Aliese Lash, MSW, LICSW (she/her)

Welcome, welcome!

Get to know me.

Ever since I was really young, I’ve been inspired by people’s unique stories, fascinated by human behavior, but also deeply troubled by the inequities that are experienced by people who have been historically marginalized. This discontentment is what led me to complete both a Bachelor’s Degree from George Mason University and a Master’s Degree from Boston College in Social Work. From there my career has been dedicated to decolonizing and dismantling white supremacy in social work and advocating for destigmatized and equitable mental health care.

Over the past 12+ years working in foster care/adoption, therapeutic after-school programs, in-home therapy, workforce development programs, and group therapy practices, I have had the privilege of supporting the mental health needs and therapeutic goals of hundreds of primarily BIPOC young people and adults. As a bi-racial woman who was taught at a young age to embrace differences and share kindness to everyone, I recognize the value of representation and a shared sense of solidarity in my therapeutic relationships.

My style.

I am committed to welcome each of my clients with dignity, respect, and inclusion so they can feel comfortable bringing their full authentic selves to each session. I believe that each person is the expert of their own experience and are the source of their own solutions. My style is guided by a human-centered, collectivist, and strengths-focused approach and I like to include a blend of techniques and interventions rooted in:

  • Liberation Psychology

  • Narrative Therapy

  • Solutions Focused Therapy

  • Mindfulness

  • Ecotherapy

I bring a playful, creative approach to my therapeutic relationships and strive to ask strong questions during sessions and in the form of journal prompts that allow folks to expand their thoughts and challenge their assumptions.

I see you. Here’s how I can help.

My areas of expertise include supporting folks who identify as BIPOC and/or LGBTQ+ who struggle with:

  • A blurred sense of purpose, confidence, or life direction

  • Racing/negative thoughts, overwhelm, worry, or difficulty sleeping (Anxiety)

  • Low motivation, hopelessness, low energy, withdrawal, or feeling empty (Depression)

  • Feeling disrespected or misunderstood due to your Racial, Cultural, or Gender Identity

  • Life Transitions like moving, getting married, raising children, or adjusting to adulthood

  • Chronic Stress/Burnout at work or in your community

  • Interpersonal Relationships with partners, friends, and family members

  • Pressure to be perfect and “put together”

  • Attuning to your mind, body, or intuition

In our therapeutic relationship I am dedicated to helping you to feel heard, seen and valued. I am honored to be in your corner, to understand your unique needs, empower you to tap into your already existing strengths and values, equip you with practical tools that will benefit your mental wellness, and uplift your voice so you can speak your truth and embrace all of your identities confidently.

Why “Liberated Light Counseling”?

lib·er·ate (v.) to release someone from a state or situation that limits freedom of thought or behavior.

I created Liberated Light Counseling to help folks who have been historically marginalized to experience liberation from negative societal narratives, thoughts, and assumptions about their existence and gain the confidence to shine genuinely and unapologetically in all settings.

In my down time.

When I am not working to promote mental healing for my community, you will probably find me running through the streets of Boston, pretending to be a chef, hosting events, listening to podcasts and audiobooks, taking hammock naps, collecting house plants, listening to Beyoncé, or hiking through local, national, and international parks with my partner and daughter.

Let’s Connect.
